Reports on the Swine Flu says, the most riskier section of population for the H1N1 are the Pregnant Women, especially those in their 3rd trimester are at high risk of serious complications from the H1N1 A influenza virus.
Swine Treatments for Pregnant Women
As the H1N1 flu outbreak has now elevated to pandemic level, the article by Canadian Medical Association Journal has revealed that oseltamivir otherwise known as Tamiflu and Zanamivir otherwise known as Relenza are relatively safer drugs of use in pregnant and breast feeding mothers. It is also said that only less data is available about Zanamivir’s safety in pregnant women.
Neither of the drug appears to affect the growth and development of the foetus, but the data collection is ongoing. Pregnant women , children under 5 years, the elders and others such as those with chronic lung conditions are the highly risky people to this swine flu.
It is also noted that only small amounts of oseltamivir and zanamivir are excreted into human milk. If an infant is breastfed by the mother on these drugs and needs treatment, the recommended dose of oseltamivir or zanamivir should be given to the infant and such dosage taken within 48 hours of attack of the flu.
