Abatacept communicates with T cells (a group of one among the white blood cells). When abatacept interfers with t cells these cells get activated and in turn it activates the cells that cause inflammation in the joints.

Abatacept goes and sticks with one of the T cell switches and block it, disables the T cell to be turned on.
